"I've been recording in Cuba with a couple of the remaining members of The Buena Vista Social Club, for about five years. My new CD will be ready in about six weeks, with a number of my own songs combined with some classics."

Mateo
My name is Matthew Stoneman, but most people know me as Mateo. Though I'm American, originally from New Hampshire, I make my living by singing in Spanish. I've been a fixture on the local scene for many years singing the old boleros from the 1920's through 50's. I moved to Los Angeles shortly after high school. After many years of living in close proximity to the Latino community, I started dabbling in singing in Spanish. I also would write songs and have them translated to Spanish. I did this for about five years, building up a large repertoire, having memorized over 100 songs in Spanish. One day, down on my luck, I went over to Olvera Street, put out a hat, and started singing. It went over well right from the beginning. I started doing this for work every day since then. I've now been doing this for work for 7 years. I'm a troubador that sings in many Latino restaurants on the east side of Los Angeles. I've also been recording in Cuba with a couple of the remaining members of The Buena Vista Social Club, for about five years. Though I sell my CDs on a street level, not in any stores, I've sold more than 40,000 copies. My new CD will be ready in about six weeks, with a number of my own songs combined with some classics. So tune in for more!
